The Mattagami First Nation have hosted fishing tournaments for over 20 years on Mattagami Lake. The lake has approximately 40 miles of navigable waters surrounded by the beautiful landscapes of northern Ontario. This body of water is home to species such as Northern Pike, Whitefish, Perch, and the popular Walleye (Pickerel as many of us call them!).
Community volunteers assist event organizers to ensure events are run professionally. This support has allowed MFN to become host to these major angling events:
In addition to our dedicated volunteers, our fishing tournaments would not be possible without the support of our generous sponsors. We are proud of the established partnerships with our long-time sponsors, allowing us to build the credibility to attract even more support.
As a result, two of our key events, the MFN Walleye Tournament and the MFN Fall Classic Walleye Tournament are sanctioned events under the Northern Ontario Walleye Trail (NOWT). The June tournament has become a highly anticipated annual event as it kicks off the NOWT season.
Tournament headquarters operate out of the Mattagami First Nations Community Complex. The complex provides a large open area for participants, organizers, and vendors to commune. Supporting facilities include restrooms, stage and cafeteria.
